The right equipment depends on the vehicle, terrain, recovery points and the operator's training. A winch may suit some roles, while others may be better served by properly stored recovery equipment and a clear process for calling support. It is not a substitute for sound judgement in difficult conditions.

For towing vehicles, the towbar, trailer wiring, brake controller where required and rear access all need to work together. Consider whether a rear step, spare wheel arrangement, recovery points or canopy design affects trailer coupling and electrical connections. If the vehicle will tow regularly, assess the loaded vehicle and trailer combination rather than looking at towing hardware alone.

Remote travel also places a premium on everyday reliability. Dust protection for sensitive equipment, accessible spare fuses, sensible cable routing and gear that can be inspected quickly can be more useful than a highly complicated build. The best fit-outs make routine pre-start checks easier.
